This trainer shows you a closed 13-tile hand that is one tile from winning. Your job is to select every tile that would complete it. Easy hands have one or two winning tiles. Medium hands have two or three. Hard hands have three or more, and they often use one suit, so they look tricky. After each answer, you see how the hand breaks down with each winning tile.

How to read the explanation

Each answer lists the sets the hand would form. For example, “123 · 456 · 789 · 111 · 99” means the tile completes those groups, using numbers in the suit shown.

This trainer checks shape only. It does not check whether a hand has a yaku, or whether you are in furiten. Those matter in a real game, and you can read about them in our lessons.

A method to try

  1. Find the sets you are sure of.
  2. Try each candidate tile from low to high.
  3. Ask whether the hand can break into sets and a pair.
  4. Do not stop at the first winning tile.
A long run like this can hide a three-sided wait.
