Reading sets quickly makes every style of mahjong easier. This drill shows you a few tiles, and you say what they are: a pair, a pung, a kong, a chow, or not a set at all. Some of the wrong ones are close on purpose, such as a run with one tile in the wrong suit. Try to beat your own time, and watch your total grow on this device.

The sets

PairTwo identical tilesTwo Red Dragons
PungThree identical tilesThree Five Dots
KongFour identical tilesFour East tiles
ChowThree numbers in a row in one suit3, 4, and 5 of Bamboo
Not a set. The numbers are not in a row.
Not a set. The numbers run in order, but the suits do not match.

American mahjong does not use chows. If that is your style, the drill still helps you read tiles quickly.
